Connecticut 2600 Meetings

The next CT2600 meeting will be held at a location to be determined. Watch this space for more details.

About 2600 Meetings

2600: The Hacker Quarterly is one of the longest-running hacker magazines out there. From its pages came the idea of 2600 meetings, a monthly meet-up for local hackers and technology enthusiasts to see each other in person, hang out, learn something new, and make new friends IRL.

We invite everyone with an interest in hacking, technology, infosec, IT, computers, free and open-source software, privacy, digital rights, mesh networks, off-grid communications, or current events (as they relate) to attend and chat us up. You're more than welcome to distract us by bringing gadgets, cool hacker toys, your latest project, or other shiny objects.

Additionally, many of us are active in amateur radio, but we are not a ham radio club.

Rules

These are taken from the official guidelines:

  1. We meet in public areas so that anyone can join. There is no admission charge nor dues of any sort. We do this to make sure like-minded people who don't know about us can be drawn in. We have nothing to hide and we don't judge.
  2. We act in a responsible manner. We don't do illegal things and don't cause problems for the location that's hosting us.
  3. We meet on the first Friday of the month around 6:00 PM until whenever we get bored and leave. Holidays may force us to postpone a week, weather may make us cancel, and issues with the venue may make us change the location. We will announce changes as far in advance as we can.
  4. We try to meet somewhere in or near central Connecticut so that everyone interested has a good chance to make it.

Finally, we practice respect and connect and welcome all friendly faces regardless of level of expertise, age, sex or gender expression, ethnicity, nationality, citizenship or immigration status, disability, political beliefs, preferred indentation, or your 2600 subscription status; and we ask that you practice the same mantra while you're here. If acting like a decent human being is a problem for you, you may want to find something else to do with your evening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Including the questions that we think you're thinking about.

Can I come?
Yes! Though, if you're under 18, we suggest getting your parent's or guardian's permission — or bring them along, too! The more, the merrier. We do our best to keep our language friendly for ears of all ages.
Is it free?
Yes! If we're at a coffeehouse or something, you may wish to buy something to thank the staff for dealing with us, but it's not required.
Well, I made it, despite your directions.
Ah, welcome! I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable meeting. We try to remember to bring at least one copy of 2600 to act as your guiding star. If we forget it, at least one of us is bound to have a laptop out.
Will I end up on a government watchlist for attending?
If you're reading this, you're probably on one already. If it helps, we'll use any name you give us. Heck, go full-on Dr. Chuck Tingle and wear a bag over your head if it makes you feel better. If you do leave your bunker, you'll find we're not recording you, there's no tracking metadata in meatspace, and we don't take meeting minutes.
My computer's been acting up.
2600 meetings aren't free tech support. However, we're pretty nice people, so we may help you out if you come ready to chat and don't abuse the privilege of having a bunch of nerds in one room.
Are you related to the group that was having meetings on the Berlin Turnpike?
No, we are not. They shut down around COVID and never resumed. If you were a part of this group, we'd love to meet you! Stop by!
Are you related to the group that was having meetings at Barnes & Noble in Canton, CT Hackerspace in Watertown, and Klekolo's World Coffee in Middletown?
Yes, that's us! While we were a natural fit for CT Hackerspace, it was never the same after the passing of our comrade Bill Saturno. It's since closed, leaving us looking for a new permanent home.
You guys should meet at—
Since we lost CTH, we're looking for a permanent home. Ideally, it should be somewhat quiet so we can all chat without disturbing others too much. There should be ample parking or public transportation, and free Wi-Fi and power outlets are nice to have. Scroll down for our contact information.
Do you have a masking policy?
We do not; we simply follow whatever the venue demands. That being said, if you're not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home and come back next month. (I don't care if it's just a cold. We don't want it.)
